London 2012 Olympics - The Colours of the Olympic Rings

How did these Blue, Yellow, Black, Green and Red Circles gain such prominence and power ?. And what do they symbolise. The modern Olympic games were revived during the late 19th centurythrough the efforts of Pierre de Coubertin he wrote to the Union des SportsAthletique in Paris in 1892 his letter said: Let us export our oarsmen, our runners, our fencers into other lands. That is the true free trade of the future and the day it is introduced into Europe the cause of peacewill have received a new and strong ally. De Coubertin drew a symbol on the top of the page, five rings linked together in a single row. He used coloured pencils to make the rings blue, yellow, black, green and red. They were first debuted at the Olympic Games in Antwerp in 1920 as the official symbol of the Olympics.
